5000 Miles of Hope by Chris MacLuckie (Part one)

I own a purebred 9year old Morgan mare ‘OTR She Roxs’, also known as Roxy. Currently we are 1600miles into our solo horse ride fundraiser. We ride 15-30 miles a day with 255 lbs total load with rider and saddle. It’s only been possible because of Roxy. Day in, day out, she gives it her best. Roxy has never been shod and instead I use Easy boots and hoof armour. Prior to the trip, I skidded wood with her, and once the trip is over I intend on entering her in some 50 mile endurance events as well as use her on cows and for tours. Then I will breed her to either a Morgan, an Arabian, a Canadian or a Gaited Jack.

Our journey began on Labour day 2017, a ride that lasts for 5000 miles and 18 months. That is at least 15 miles a day, and riding 20 out of 30 days . We will travel from Rockingham, Ontario, Canada to San Andres, Itzapa, Guatamala. Each day on the road will feature 3 hours of walking and 3 hour of riding and could not be possible without your support and the support of our sponsors.

This adventure has 3 goals:
1.
Promote a fundraiser for Maya Pedal, a Guatemalan NGO that modifies old bikes and transforms them into pedal powered machinery like corn grinders, coffee de-pulpers, blenders and water pumps
2.
Explore healthy food and farms, and gather material for the 3rd edition of ‘The Edible Gardening Guidebook’
3.
Get fat ass Chris back into shape! Help him re-discover his cardio base!
